Biography


Jun Castelblanco-Zheng is a pianist and composer based in Auckland, New Zealand. Jun finds fulfilment in bringing healing and light through music performance and in encouraging creativity and self-expression through musical composition.

Originally from China, Jun started his musical journey at age 8 and, after years of growth and dedication, graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Auckland.

Career higlights include: First Prize at the West Auckland Performing Art Competition 2009, Performance Pianist for North Shore Music Theatre’s production of The Musical of Musicals – The Musical! 2013, Best Composer Prize 2024 and Best Pianist Prize 2014 & 2025 in the Llewelyn Jones Award , and a solo performance at St. Mathews-in-the-City 2025.

Jun also cherishes his time living in Colombia between 2022—2023, where he experienced the rhythms and sounds of an exotic and fascinating culture. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music Degree under Stephen De Pledge and Dr Sarah Watkins.

Creating is the only true antidote to death, creating gives back what death takes away. Creating is a rebellion against the futility of the quotidian, against the insult of waste. Art sees beauty everywhere, even in the fire that burned everything down. – Nadine Anne Hura
